Apple Dumplings

2 cups flour
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup ice water
1 tsp salt
Apples
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsps cinnamon
4 Tbs butter
1/2 cup white sugar
2 cups water


THE CRUST: Mix shortening and flour until crumbly, add salt and water. Mix till dough is soft. Roll on floured board into a 13x11 piece. Cut into 6 squares.

THE DUMPLING: Cut apples into thin slices and place in center of squares. Mix up in a small bowl 1/2 cup of the brown sugar, 1 1/2 tsps of the cinnamon and 1 Tbs of the butter. Divide the sugar mixture onto each apple. Fold corners of dough over the top and pinch tightly closed.

THE SYRUP: In sauce pan, add the white sugar, the remaining brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and 2 cups of water. Bring to boil.

ARRANGE: Place dumplings in a 13x11 baking dish. Pour syrup over all and bake at 400 for 40-45 minutes.
